Knots of Love Dragon Scale Fingerless Gloves

I absolutely love the BlueRidge Knots of Love Gloves by Terri Stewart. They’re fun,

they’re gorgeous, and they work up absolutely soft and cuddly in Loops & Threads Facets

yarn. As a matter of fact, they are my most commissioned item.

Recently, however, I’ve been getting a lot of requests for my dragon scale fingerless gloves.

Enter my vision for a blended pair of gloves. You still get the lovely texture of the BlueRidge

Knots of Love gloves and you get the dragon scales.

As a person that loves a proper amount of self-torture, I set out to create them. Facets

yarn is a beast to work with if you need to pull it out and change anything... but, you can’t

really imitate the way it works with any other yarn. Soooo, I have had to crochet, then

super carefully pull out, and crochet again to achieve a product I’m happy with that I’m

sure you’ll love.

Instructions

With larger hook, chain 24. Carefully join to form a ring without twisting chain.

Round 1: Chain 2 (does not count as first stitch) HDC in back bump of each chain space. Slip

Stitch in top of first HDC. (24 HDC)

Round 2: Chain 3 (does not count as first stitch), turn. 2 DC in same stitch as sl st. I like

to mark the stitch I put the first two DC in and the top of the first DC to make the

spaces easier to find at the end. *sk 2 st, (SC, 2 DC in next stitch to form Love Knot)* 7

times, sk 2 st, SC in same space as starting DC, sl st in first DC. I like to mark the last

single crochet to know where my first stitch in the next round goes. (8 LK)

Round 3: Chain 3, turn. 2 DC in last SC of previous row (marked with a stitch marker)

mark first DC with stitch marker. *sk DC of next LK, LK (SC & 2 DC) in SC of LK* 7 times.

SC in same SC as starting DC. Sl st in first DC, mark last SC. (8 LK)

Rounds 4-14: Repeat Row 3 (or until desired length)

Starting thumb hole and hand.

Round 15: Cut yarn, weave in ends. Join in loops of foundation chain. Chain 2, (does not count

as a stitch) I like to add the tail from the join into my chain then crochet over it, that way

I don’t have to weave it in and I know it isn’t going to come out. HDC in each chain around,

DO NOT JOIN!!! (24 HDC)

Round 16: Chain 2, turn. HDC across. DO NOT JOIN. (24 HDC)

Rounds 17-18: Repeat round 16.

Round 19: Switch to smaller hook. Chain 2, turn. HDC across. Join with first HDC to create

ring. (24 HDC)

Starting the dragon scales. Make sure you are working on the outside and DO NOT TURN.

Round 20: Ch 3 (counts as first stitch from here on), DC in same stitch, ch 1, sk 2 st, DC in

next st. *Ch 1 Sk 2 St, 2 DC in next st, ch 1 sk 2 st, DC in next st* 3 times. Ch 1 sl st in

top of ch 3. (12 DC, 8 CH1)

Round 21: Ch 3, 4 DC down post of first DC from previous round. CH 1, turn work counter

clockwise, work 5 DC up post of second DC from previous row. *Sl st to next DC to secure.

One dragon scale completed. Skipping the DC you slip stitched into, 5 DC down the post of

the next DC, ch 1, turn work, 5 DC up the post of the next DC* 3 times. Sl st through top

of starting ch 3 and next DC to secure last and first scales. (4 scales, 4 sl st)

Round 22: Ch 3, DC in same st. Ch 1 DC in center of next scale. *Ch 1, 2 DC in DC with sl st.

Ch 1 DC in center of next scale* 3 times. Ch 1, sl st in top of Ch 3. (12 DC, 8 Ch 1)

Round 23: Repeat round 21

Round 24: Repeat round 22

Repeat rounds 22 & 21 until desired number of scales (I like either 4 or 5 rows). Cut yarn

and sew in ends.
