Dungeons and Dragons Doll Pattern

Okay everyone, I know that you all know that I am into gaming. So there is this awesome game called Dungeons and Dragons. I loved playing it when I lived in the Midwest and had a steady group of friends that got together every other week for an all day questing session. Now that I live in the land of sunshine, I don't have that group of friends anymore. It's cool. I have found Dungeon and Dragons Online (DDO). Hubby and I love playing it together. During the roughest part of 2020 we played once a week together for up to 18 hours at a go. We created a song we sang while playing and everything.

Anyway, I LOVE RAVENLOFT! Both live role playing and in DDO. In one quest from DDO, Death House, the load screen has this little murderous doll. Every time I play, I say I am going to make the doll.

I mean, as a crafter, how could I not want to make this thing.

Now that I derive my income from my skill, I have sat down and made it. I love how it came out. It is super adorably cute.

Well, as usual. Now that I have created the doll, and written down the pattern, here it is.

Dungeons and Dragons Creepy Doll Pattern

Supplies:

Worsted Yarn

-Yellow-Less than 200 yards

-Denim/Dark Blue-Approximately 200 yards

-Light Grey/Tan-Approximately 200 yards

-Black-Less than 200 yards

-Dark Red-Less than 50 yards

3.5 mm Hook

Fiber Fill

Needle for Sewing

2 Buttons for eyes, thread to sew them on

To be honest, I didn’t actually measure how much yarn I used. I went to the local Dollar Tree and grabbed one ball of each color, and had more than enough of each color to make it work.

Body Assembly:

Line up the top piece to the body rectangle matching your yellow pieces and your single black single crochet. I use the black tail to secure the black to black. Then using the long yellow tail, whip stitch the top of the body to the body rectangle.

Line up the bottom body piece with the center of the three black single crochets and the line of black on the body rectangle. The yellow rectangle lines should fall on top of the black single crochets from the bottom piece. Again, I use the black tail to secure the black pieces in, the used the yellow tail to whip stitch the rest of the rectangle to the base.

Stuff the body as firmly as you would like, I didn’t stuff mine overly firmly. Use the blue tail to whip stitch the body closed. Now you should have 2 legs, 2 arms and a tubular body.

At this point, I put the legs and arms on the body. Mainly so I could confirm that my head was big and floppy enough while creating it.

To attach the legs and arms, I squished the openings closed roughly following the seam lines. The legs are attached to the black base not quite in the center of it, but only slightly forward of center. Eyeball the placement, then stitch them in place using the tail you left when creating the legs. Secure and hide the end.

The arms go just slightly forward of the midline of the side body and one row below the yellow line. Eyeball the placement, stitch them in place using the tail you left while creating the arms. Secure and hide the end.

Head: I’m not going to lie, this is probably the most complicated part of the entire pattern. It is made of 2 pieces that are created separately then stitched together. The hair strands are created while making the back of the head. It is crocheted in the round with no slip stitches or chain spaces all in the light grey. This creates a smoother finish.

Part 1: Back of the Head

R1: Chain 5, SC in the second chain from the hook (I mark this stitch as my starting of the round stitch, move with each row) and in the next 2 chains, 3 single crochets in the last chain. Mark the center single crochet of the 3. Single crochet in the next 3 back bumps of the starting chain. 3 single crochet in final space, mark center single crochet of the 3. You can use the tail from the chain to close the spaces that may/may not have been created in this round later if you want to. Mine worked itself out as I continued on.

R2-5: Single crochet in each single crochet until the stitch before the marker. 2 single crochet in the stitch before the stitch marker. 3 single crochet in marked stitch, move marker to new center stitch. 2 single crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each stitch to stitch before marker. 2 single crochet in the stitch before the marker. 3 single crochet in the marked stitch, move stitch marker to new center stitch. 2 single crochet in next stitch. Continue in this manner.

R6-9: Single crochet in each single crochet until the stitch before the marker. 2 Single crochet in stitch before marker. ONE single crochet in marked stitch, move marker, 2 single crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each in each single crochet until the stitch before the marker. 2 single crochet in stitch before marker. ONE single crochet in marked stitch, move marker. Two single crochet in next stitch. Continue in this manner.

R10: (This round is the most complicated of the entire pattern. The exact measurement of each hair chain is not exactly important, if you want to make them longer/shorter, you can)

Single crochet in each single crochet to marker. Single crochet in marked stitch. Move marker.

Single crochet in next stitch. Chain 5, single crochet in 4 back bumps of chain, slip stitch in the same stitch as last single crochet on round.

Single crochet in stitches until marked stitch. Single crochet in marked stitch, move marker. Slip stitch in next stitch. Fasten off, leave a tail to attach the head to the body.

Part 2: Front of the Head

R10: Single crochet in each stitch around, move markers as you stitch in marked stitches. When you reach the first stitch of the round, slip stitch in first stitch and fasten off leaving a long tail to sew two halves together.

At this point, you need to do the facial detail. I mean you could probably do it after assembly, but why make your life more difficult than necessary?

Sew the eyes on to the head nearish the top and a bit more towards the sides than you probably would a non-creepy doll. The more obvious the stitching on the buttons, the more of a creepy factor you get. I was lazy and only used this much.

Using black stitch the mouth on. It is a straight line that runs from one side of the head to the other nearish the bottom of the face piece. Now, take the dark red and sew on those mouth stitches. I wanted to match the one from the video game, so I did. You could add fewer or more depending on what you like.

Once you have those details on your face, you will stitch the two halves together. Make sure you leave a space of about 1 inch open at the bottom to stuff the head and attach it to the bottom. With the long tail, whip stitch around the bottom and side of the head. When you get to the hair, you might need to experiment with how you stitch it on. I found going through the slip stitch at the base of the hair and actually whip stitching the base round to work best for me. Do what works the best for you. Continue around until you have that approximately one inch gap left. Secure the end.

Stuff the head. I made mine extra stuffed because it is supposed to be floppy and heavy looking.

Attach the head to the body. Again, it’s supposed to be floppy, so you are going to attach it only to the grey area. I sewed my head opening to the second from the edge row of the body. This made it waaaaaaaayyy more floppy than I would for most dolls and ami, and perfect for the look I as going for.

Now, use the red to stitch on any other blood stitching details you want. Again, I was trying to match the game image as closely as possible so I did just the foot seams.

And that’s it. You’re all done. You can attach a tag to it if you want to. Mine says, “Definitely not haunted, probably.”

I hope you enjoy your most likely not haunted doll. If so, please tag me on instagram @handmadewithlovebykris or facebook @HandmadewithLoveByKris or on twitter @krishandmadeluv
